“Dang, Lily,” Nadine complained. “Did you leave any bacon for the rest of us?”

The dining room was filled with the aroma of savory smoked meats, along with the sweet and spicy scents of cinnamon, apple, and maple syrup. Thirty or so guests, either sitting down at a table or shuffling along the buffet line, filled the restaurant. There were many who I didn’t recognize, but several had been guests at the party the night before. And of course, there was my family. Parker, Buzz, Greer, and Reggie were currently in line for food. Nadine had sent Buzz to get his plate first. He’d tried to get her to go before him, but she’d insisted.

“There’s still some left up there,” I told Nadine as I sat down at the table where she’d been sitting with the triplets. I took Jericho from the stroller and put him on my knee. Like his siblings, he had several teeth and had been on solid food since four months old. “Besides, I’m going to share with my buddy here.”

Jericho had red hair and green eyes like Buzz and me. Jackson and Journey looked more like Nadine, and they were smaller than Jericho as well. All three of them were supposed to be human, not shifters, but sometimes I wondered if Jericho didn’t have a little werecougar in him.

He let out a joyous squeal of delight as I wagged a piece of bacon in front of him. Even if he wasn’t a shifter, he still took after his favorite Aunt Lily. The boy was a bottomless pit.

“The waitress said they were going to bring three highchairs out for us,” Nadine said. “I don’t want to be cleaning out this stroller if they have to eat in it. I love my children, but dear Lord, they’re messy.”

“You go ahead and get your food,” I told Nadine. “I’ll watch the babies.”

“Bay-bay-bay-bay,” Jericho babbled as he gnawed on the small piece of bacon I gave him. I broke off two more pieces and handed them to Jackson and Journey. “If I had enough lap, all three of you would be here,” I told them.

My energy was low after yesterday, so I’d nabbed eight pieces of bacon, a couple of scoops of eggs, some sausage links that looked a little gray but smelled okay, a bowl of cheesy grits, sausage gravy, and a couple of buttermilk biscuits. I hoped it was enough to fill me up.

Trudy waved at me from three tables away. Her husband, son, and his wife were all sitting with her. I nodded and waved back. I didn’t see Cat Maddox anywhere. If she didn’t come down for breakfast, I’d check on her. I could understand why Marshall felt so protective of Cat. I barely knew the woman, and I had the impulse to make sure she was safe. Even if it was from herself.

I took a bite of grits. They were creamy and as cheesy as I’d hoped for. Parker sat down next to me, and he pulled the stroller to him, then retrieved both Journey and Jackson and put them on his knees.
